In order to further promote the innovation and development of oncolytic virus therapy in the field of colorectal cancer treatment, and promote the deep integration of basic research, clinical transformation and industrial application, "The first phase of the Academic Seminar Series of the Special Committee of Colorectal Cancer of Chengdu High-tech Medical Association" sponsored by Chengdu High-tech Medical Association and hosted by West China Hospital of Sichuan University was successfully held online on March 30, 2025. It attracted experts from Shanghai, Sichuan and Chongqing to actively connect and carry out heated discussions.

The meeting was chaired by Professor Wang Xiaodong, Chairman of the colorectal Cancer Committee of West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Chengdu High-tech Medical Association. The conference focused on the application of oncolytic virus in the treatment of colorectal cancer, in-depth discussion of its basic and clinical research progress and its potential advantages in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

The conference invited a number of well-known domestic experts to give keynote speeches. Professor Xu Qing from Shanghai 10th People's Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University explained the basic and clinical research progress of oncolytic virus in detail, and shared the cutting-edge research results in the treatment of colorectal cancer by oncolytic virus at home and abroad.

Professor Sun Hao from the Affiliated Cancer Hospital of Chongqing University shared his team's clinical practice experience in the treatment of ultra-low rectal cancer, and deeply discussed the application value of oncolytic virus combined with full-course neoadjuvant therapy for improving the quality of life of patients and preserving organ function.

The conference also featured a number of exciting discussion sessions, where experts had in-depth exchanges on the application prospects of oncolytic viruses in the treatment of colorectal cancer, clinical study design, and challenges. Professor Yang Yun from West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Professor Luo Bin from Sichuan People's Hospital hosted a discussion session, inviting many experts to share their unique insights and practical experience.

At the end of the meeting, Professor Wang Xiaodong made a concluding speech. He pointed out that the oncolytic virus has a promising application in the treatment of colorectal cancer, but more clinical studies are needed to verify its efficacy and safety. He called on experts to strengthen cooperation and work together to promote the application and development of oncolytic virus in the treatment of colorectal cancer.

This meeting built a valuable communication platform for the application of oncolytic virus in the treatment of colorectal cancer, and strongly promoted the further attention and research of the academic community in this field.
