September 21 is World Alzheimer's Day. It is World Alzheimer's Disease Day. Alzheimer's disease takes a toll on the physical and mental health of older people.

Doctors said, Alzheimer's disease in the early stage of the most typical clinical manifestations, is memory decline, especially "near memory forgetting." In other words, they cannot remember recent events, but they remember things from their youth very well.

At present, the specific causes of Alzheimer's disease are not well understood. Most studies have linked it to the degeneration of the brain's nervous system. The incidence increases with age and is more common in women than men. Cognitive impairment is two to three times more common in women over 60 than in men of the same age.

In China, 10 million people aged 60 and above suffer from Alzheimer's disease.

So how can caregivers help patients slow the progression of the disease?

Do this to cope with memory impairment

First, we can help patients overcome the living inconvenience caused by memory impairment:

The daily schedule arranges the patient's daily tasks in a certain order.

Reminders can be used to remind patients of things to do, such as post-it notes, calendars and alarm clocks.

Mark furniture and objects commonly used in the home, such as directions and names, to avoid frustration caused by forgetting words.

Carry notes and ask the patient to write down important information in the notebook, such as phone numbers, names and ideas.

Don't worry if you encounter a communication barrier

When communicating with patients, caregivers should avoid interference from external noise. When patients do not understand, caregivers should remind patients more to reduce their frustration. With physical pictures and photos, and use body language to comfort, encourage and praise the patient; When a patient makes a mistake, do not argue with him or her, but persuade him or her patiently.
