On September 20, 2025, the inaugural meeting and first academic conference of the Day Surgery Professional Committee, jointly organized by the Chengdu High-Tech Medical Association and West China Hospital Shangjin Hospital of Sichuan University, was successfully held in Chengdu. The event attracted professionals from various medical institutions across the day surgery field to witness the committee's establishment and engage in in-depth discussions on core topics including development pathways, quality management, and efficiency enhancement in day surgery.

A total of 78 experts from relevant fields across hospitals of all levels witnessed the establishment of the Day Surgery Professional Committee. Through deliberation and democratic election, the committee elected its Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Deputy Chairpersons, and Standing Committee members. Professor Liang Peng from West China Hospital of Sichuan University and Professor Ma Hongsheng from West China Tianfu Hospital of Sichuan University were appointed as Honorary Chairpersons of the committee. Professor Li Zhichao from West China Shangjin Hospital, Sichuan University, was elected as the inaugural Chairperson of the Committee. Professor Song Yinghan from West China Hospital, Sichuan University, was elected as the Chairperson-elect. Professor Ran Hongmei from Chengdu First People's Hospital, Professor Li Yi from Chengdu Third People's Hospital, Professor Huang Shungui from Chengdu Sixth People's Hospital, and Professor Yang Yun from West China Shangjin Hospital, Sichuan University, were elected as Vice-Chairpersons of the Committee.
At the meeting, the approval for establishing a functional Party group within the Day Surgery Specialized Committee was announced. Among the 40 Party members of the committee, Comrades Li Zhichao, Ran Hongmei, and Huang Shungui were recommended and approved by the Society's Party branch to form the functional Party group. Comrade Li Zhichao serves as the group leader, Comrade Ran Hongmei is responsible for discipline inspection and organizational work, and Comrade Huang Shungui handles publicity duties. Comrade Peng Dongmei led all committee members in a Party lecture titled “Commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Victory in the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.”
Following the inauguration ceremony, the academic conference commenced. The meeting featured addresses by Professor Ai He, Vice President and Deputy Secretary-General of the Chengdu High-Tech Medical Association; Vice President Xue Fan of West China Hospital Shangjin Hospital, Sichuan University; and Professor Liang Peng of West China Hospital, Sichuan University. They first extended warm congratulations on the committee's establishment. They emphasized that day surgery constitutes a vital component of modern healthcare systems, and the establishment of this committee will significantly advance the standardization and normalization of day surgery practices in the region. They expressed hope that under the leadership of Professor Li Zhichao, the committee would leverage its platform to consolidate professional expertise, foster academic exchange, and make positive contributions to enhancing the efficiency and quality of medical services.
The academic conference explored multidimensional developments in day surgery, with multiple experts delivering thematic reports from perspectives including clinical practice, management innovation, and patient safety. Attendees unanimously agreed that as a key component of national healthcare quality and safety improvement goals, the standardized and regulated development of day surgery represents the primary future direction. The conference prioritized collaborative strategies balancing efficiency and safety throughout the entire day surgery lifecycle, emphasizing evidence-based medicine's pivotal role in pathway optimization and process reengineering. Enhancing nursing capabilities was repeatedly highlighted as a critical foundation for high-quality day surgery development. Additionally, multiple experts shared practical experiences in operating day surgery units and innovating diagnostic services from multidisciplinary collaboration and ward development perspectives, providing actionable references for the scientific and systematic establishment of day surgery centers across institutions.
Another highlight of this conference was the inaugural Day Surgery New Media Science Communication Competition. The competition encouraged medical professionals to create health science content using diverse new media formats such as short videos, animations, and infographics. Entries focused on themes including day surgery procedures, patient education, and rehabilitation guidance. The submissions featured clinically relevant content presented in lively and engaging formats, fully demonstrating healthcare workers' innovative capabilities and sense of responsibility in medical communication and public health promotion. After intense competition, the first prize was awarded to: Zeng Lei, Liu Xingqin, Liu Jing, Luo Xuelian, Chen Yu, and Cai Yuting from Chengdu Shangjin Nanfu Hospital; Wang Hailing and Wang Yulin from Yibin Second People's Hospital. The second prize went to: Li Linjun and Ju Yan from Chengdu Sixth People's Hospital; Zhang Pei and Chen Zhihui from Chongqing Emergency Medical Center; Liu Yinhong, Wei Xu, and Zhong Yajuan from Chengdu Fifth People's Hospital received second prizes. Third prizes were awarded to Huang Xiaoli, Huang Jin, Liu Xiangyu, and Fu Biying from Chengdu Medical College First Affiliated Hospital; Yuan Hongmei, Xu Lilu, Zhang Huiyan, Huang Tao, and Huang Miao from Chengdu Xindu District Third People's Hospital; Zhu Min, Du Jiaojiao, and Wen Yuejia from West China Hospital, Sichuan University; and Tang Shaozhen and Deng Shiyuan from Luzhou People's Hospital. The Best Graphic Communication Award was presented to Yuan Yuman, Yan Manlin, Zhou Shurun, Li Songlan, and Wang Yulin from Yibin Second People's Hospital; and Wu Jiao and Zong Jun from Chengdu Sixth People's Hospital. Tang Qian and Jing Xi from Chongqing Emergency Medical Center; Zhao Mizhang, Huang Xiaoli, and Huang Jin from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College received the Best Graphic Award. This segment not only enriched the conference format but also expanded the dissemination channels for the influence of the day surgery specialty, embodying the modern medical service concept of “integration of medical care and prevention, alongside science popularization.”
The conference concluded successfully in a solemn and enthusiastic atmosphere. We look forward to the Specialized Committee fully leveraging its academic leadership and organizational functions in the future, actively building a regional center for the standardized promotion of day surgery, talent cultivation, and technological innovation, thereby contributing to the high-quality and sustainable development of the day surgery field.
